Banksy
Both Banksy and Chemical X worked with Third Planet International, a youth and lifestyle creative agency based in West London, who brought Chemical X in to develop the Ministry of Sound logo and who worked with him and Banksy on the Greenpeace ‘Save or Delete’ campaign and the Surfer’s Against Sewage ‘Longlife’ campaign.

Chemical X was the creative director of the Longlife project and, alongside the Third Planet team, enlisted a group of artists, designers and performers to customise a set of surfable longboards that would form part of an exhibition that toured the UK before being auctioned to raise funds for the charity. Damien Hirst, Banksy, Jamie Hewlett, Aphex Twin, David Carson and others took the boards and turned them into unique works of art. The auction raised over £70k but nowadays the Banksy ‘Toxic Mary’ board would be expected to go for more than the £1500 is made back then!

Banksy and Chemical X also worked on Greenpeace’s campaign to save the ancient forests of the world, with Banksy creating the key image and Chemical X overseeing the creative direction across the project.
The imagery that Banksy created ended up having to be shelved and the posters and flyers trashed due to Disney’s legal team taking a dim view of his interpretation and use of their Jungle Book characters. The few posters and stickers that avoided destruction now sell for thousands and the original, hand painted artwork on a pink background (for ease of isolation) was sold at auction for £75k.
Banksy and Chemical X continued to contribute to the now defunct online magazine Steal-Life.com and its sponsor, Olympus supplied Banksy with his first digital camera with which he captured some of his earliest classic street pieces.

Background:
Banksy was never paid for his work on these campaigns as he only ever contributed to causes he believed in personally. Nowadays he will still very occasionally donate artwork to good causes like the NHS nurses but, as he is currently the most famous living artist in the world, he is able to use his profile to directly amplify people and issues that matter to him most – without needing to work with anyone else…
