The Ecstasy Collection
I’ll Be Your Friend
Named after the 1991 House track by Robert Owens, the piece is partly inspired by Norman Cook’s (AKA Fatboy Slim) experience of coming up on his first ecstasy pill on the dance floor and hearing this song. The first moment that he shared what everyone else was feeling. And things would never be the same again…
This piece matches its sister piece, ‘There’s No Such Thing As Society’ with the artist again using his original pattern, arranging pills in concentric circles that emanate from the centre, but creating a sense of depth. Partially using the Fibonacci sequence to induce trippy, ephemeral patterns when viewed.
Again the pills are held, floating slightly above the void of black, with the same pattern etched beneath them but this time the whole artwork is filled with spectral colours, radiating from the centre and bringing light and energy to the blackness.
Background:
Although not actually deemed ‘a pair’, There’s No Such Thing As Society & I’ll Be Your Friend are ‘sister’ pieces, connected but not twinned.
