Elonex

When Stars Collide represents information as both binary code and particles of light, both emanating from, and being attracted to, the central vanishing point. The circular shape is both a reference to the human eye and to a black hole. The event horizon decomposes information and draws it into the singularity.

The immense forces at work needed to create something that is priceless and unique, are represented by the gold disc – gold can only be formed when neutron stars collide or explode. The gold we find near the surface of the planet earth has been brought there through catastrophic meteorite impacts over millennia.

Borne of extreme energy, it is an allegory of what it takes to succeed in life and how unique a journey that can be for both light and energy.

Background:

Elonex, is an out of home digital media company that was owned by Nick Smith, a friend of Chemical X, until his untimely passing at the end of 2025. When Stars Collide was commissioned by Nick in 2022 and it currently resides in the group’s headquarters in Birmingham.
